Summer

I think I can....

We're so very close. Soon Spring will have passed and Summer will arrive.

I had my first warm weather, shorts clad, dog walk yesterday. I even got a tan-line from it. Delightful I say, delightful.

Ostrich Envy

If I was an ostrich, today would be a good day for burying my head in the sand.

Note ostrich here:

It is gloomy and wet here in Fort Worth. I have a trip to make tomorrow that I haven't found enthusiasm for quite yet, and work feels like the bog of eternal stench to me today.

It's not work's fault, the rain is needed and I really can't wait to see my family.

It's just the today-ness of it. I would like to "duck out" if you don't mind.

I'll be over here with my head submerged if you're looking for me.

Poster fun

I forget how much I enjoy making things for others.

As a part of my fundraising for the Alaska marathon (see amazing photo below) I have started offering custom-type-style-posters for those who donate $15-$35 to Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

I sincerely enjoy the creative process of playing with the posters and they are especially fun for those who just want me to make up my own type for their poster. Below is an example of one I made today for my best friend since childhood, Kristin. Just fun.

If you are interested in having one made: see instructions here:

Donuts

Doughnut holes/ Wedding

I want donuts. I also love that these people had donuts as a wedding snack for their outdoor wedding. Everyone I know is getting engaged and married these days. May I suggest donuts?

That sounds just delicious. Or could someone bring me donut holes for a last 45 minutes of work snack?

Ok thanks.

Swimming is Hard

I want one these swimmer girls
Art

Swimming is hard.

Yesterday, I finally got in the pool at the TCU rec and learned to swim laps. I should say - I'm still learning. I managed about 8 laps (to my significant other's 20) and was done for the day.

The breathing, move your arms, kick your legs, cup your hands combo is not easy for me. There's so much to remember. And for me, it doesn't feel natural, so I actually have to work at it.

But if I am going to do this sprint triathlon I signed up for, I knew I had to get my butt in the pool. In my "hulk suit" (it's green, stripey and looks like a comic-book-worthy-super-suit) I will flounder, splash and gasp my way through water-training.

Wish me luck.

Make you Laugh

Everyone I know is getting engaged.

Ok, not everyone.

Almost everyone.

And you want to know what is making me laugh these days? The blog of a San Fran cynic, commenting on all things wedding. Today's gem: see the image and her comment below.

and for dessert, a giant coconut-covered marshmallow will descend from above.

Outdoors

wooden pallet table with built in planter or drink chiller (tutorial)

Fort Worth decided it's cold again. So despite the joys of sunshine and spring-teasers I now inch into the weekend with a cold and blustery forecast.

When it does get nice again, I am seriously considering trying to convince my handy roommate to help me build this table. I love the idea of embedded succulents.

Signs

New signs just can't compete with the good oldies.

Can we go back and start remaking the good stuff?

Summer dreaming

.

summer

I'm ready to be warm. I'm ready for sunshine, pool days and walking around the house in minimal clothing trying to cool down. I'm tired of being chilled under my skin and I'm tired of bundling up to be outside. It's been lovely this week, so I'm not complaining. But it has started my warm weather dreaming. Come get me Texas summer. I'm ready.

Conversational Detours

phone.

The phone just isn't doing it for me. I realize that I am more of a texting, facetiming, emailing and facebooking type than I am a phone-talker. ("stinkin' millenial" the masses groan)

I think it is the uncertainty surrounding when the other person will be finished talking. There is no sort of time guarantee with a phone call. All the opportunities for misadventure and conversational detours - you can lose 20 minutes of your life. Never to be recovered.

I don't know what that says about me. I kind of sound like a jerk who prefers brevity over bonding. I assure you, in person, that is not the case.

Motivation for Class

The weekend is the most difficult time to dig up motivation to do work for my grad school classes.

Most of the time the work flies by, but on a Sunday when I just want to walk the dogs, go get coffee with a friend and do my tri-training, it's like TCU asking me to pooper scoop their backyard.

Not a desirable task. Not at all.

I want to do this art project in a 2nd grade class instead.

Give and Get

Even though I didn't pursue a career in advertising my love for it never died.

Sometimes I hop on Leo Burnett ad agency's website just to see what they've been up to. If you have never seen it - you can get lost for hours in the brilliant ads featured on their site. http://www.leoburnett.com/

This is one my favorites I stumbled into today.

Who doesn't love giving and getting cards?

I collect them and hope I have the right one whenever I need it.

Anchorage Dreams

Between Hope & Anchorage

Anchorage, Alaska

Anchorage Alaska

These pinterest images of Alaska are keeping me going today.

I am training to run there.
I am training to run there.
No really, I am training to run there.

That is my mantra. Today will be over before I know it.
